The puppies first week was fairly uneventful, eat, sleep, repeat with a lot of growing. Jenny was our first to hit the 100% gain over growth weight. Fairchild was our first to get to 1 pound.
This coming week will be more exciting as the little eyes will start opening at the end of the week. The faces are starting to take shape and we are seeing the darker brown recede on their faces and the tan coming in there. The coloriing will continue to do this until they are about 6 months old - the dark brown receding to the saddle area and tan coming in more. Small bits or shite tend to either disappear or set in permanently.
Shelby went through the most change this first week, she looks normal again and is starting to take breaks and going for walks again. Our girl had her usual fight against mastitis, good old cabbage poultices helped us beat that! She does seem to get a little depressed those first days, its normal with the hormone changes from the whelping especially combined with the mastitis, but as soon as she got to have a walk and feel like life was going to be normal again, she perked up and is getting in to the swing of things. She will take breaks now from the pups, she stays close and goes and checks and odd sounds. She has also started bringing us toys again to throw for her.
We stillahve not decided if theis is the retirement litter or if there will be one more. We’re watching and will make that decision soon.
Pups largest to smallest - Curtiss, Fairchild, Stinson, Taylor, Jenny and Bellanca
