The puppies have arrived! Shelby went in to early labor Saturday night at 9:30 or so, she and I headed out to her whelping area to let Marc, Mocha and Piper sleep. The main part of her labor started on Sunday during dinner time and the pups started arriving a lit bit later. The 6th puppy arrived at 11pm, I stayed with them all for another to see if a 7th was in the works, but 6 is where we stuck. Mom and pups are all doing fine and all the pups gained a half ounce or so overnight.
No clear winner in the puppy pool, Both Neil and Lyle, assuming they finalize their puppy interest, will be getting extra go home toys.
Shelby will only leave them these first 3 days to run out and go potty. After those first critical days she’ll start taking breaks as they start doing better and better on their own. I’ve decided to stick with the classic car theme for this litter (Shelby is my inspiration!) and the pups are getting their temporary names today when I get better daylight photos of each. They are all already quick and a bit vocal, not that they can hear anything with their eyes and ears still closed for another couple of weeks. They follow mom in the PuppyDen pretty darn well already!
Birth stats:
Puppy 1 female 9 ounces 8:00pm
Puppy 2 male 11 ounces 8:45pm
Puppy 3 male 10 ounces 8:57pm
Puppy 4 female 9 ounces 9:45pm
Puppy 5 male 11.5 ounces 10:05pm
Puppy 6 female 11.5 ounces 11:00pm
Shelby and I are now concentrating on whelp recovery and checking on the kids.
